Building the Capacity of the Marine Conservation Community

There are many fantastic conservation organizations dedicated to protecting and preserving our oceans.  The Ocean Foundation provides assistance ot these entities, which have a need to develop a certain skill or competence, or for general upgrading of performance ability.  The Ocean Foundation was created in part to bring new financial and technical resources to the table so that we can increase the capacity of these organizations to pursue their missions.  The following are the funds and projects hosted at The Ocean Foundation that are dedicated to increasing the capacity of the marine conservation community.

World Ocean Fund - This is a grantmaking fund dedicated to the conservation and protection of all aspects of the oceans, with a particular focus on climate change, pelagic species, and capacity building projects for marine conservation organizations.  The World Ocean Fund is a pooled fund that is specifically designed for donors of all sizes who have an interest in the saving our oceans - donate now!

Pro Peninsula Fund
- Formerly a separate nonprofit, Pro Peninsula has recently merged with The Ocean Foundation as a way to strengthen the effectiveness of both organizations, expand our reach, and make the best use of limited resources. This union, which brought together two of the strongest, most effective organizations working in the area, enhances the great conservation work that Pro Peninsula has carried out throughout the Baja California region for the past decade - donate now!

Coastal Ocean Values Center - A research center devoted to developing a systematic, nationwide process to quantify and value the local economic contributions of recreational fishing, boating, beach going, bird watching, kayaking, and other economic activities that depend on healthy marine and coastal ecosystems. The COVC works with the National Estuary Programs, Estuarine Research Reserves, Marine Sanctuaries, local coastal programs and our partners at the Waterkeepers Alliance, Surfrider, and Restore America's Estuaries to collect a national system of long-term economic indicators of coastal ecosystem health - donate now!

Marine Ecosystem Services Partnership - A growing body of literature on the economic value of marine ecosystems has developed, yet these data and literature are not easily available to policy makers and marine managers.  We propose to develop and maintain a “virtual center” to make our expanding library of economic valuations of marine ecosystems, especially coral reef values, available to policy makers, environmental managers, and stakeholders involved in the use and management of marine ecosystems - donate now!

National Ocean Policy Fund - This fund supports TOF’s strategic efforts to advance sound national ocean policies through informing strategy and direction with the Administration, federal agencies, Congress and key stakeholders.  This fund further supports the Foundation’s efforts to address pressing economic, resource and environmental issues facing US coasts, Great Lakes and oceans - donate now!

Loreto Bay Foundation Fund - A Committee Advised Fund that supports sustainable development and a healthy community of Loreto, Baja California Sur (Mexico), and the conservation of the Loreto Bay National Marine Park - donate now!

St. Kitts Foundation Fund - A Committee Advised Fund that supports sustainable development practices in Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, and the conservation of the marine environment surrounding the islands - donate now!
