Public Knowledge and Attitudes About Coral Reefs Full Report. Edge Research. (June 2002). Conducted for TOF's Coral Reef Foundation, the Curtis and Edith Munson Foundation, and Seaweb. This is the first nationwide public survey ever conducted on coral reef issues. The report finds that although Americans feel they know little about coral reefs, they are concerned about reef health and are willing to take action to protect reefs. This report has been widely disseminated and it has established the baseline from which other NGOs can and have conducted more focused polls. (Download a PDF version of the executive summary).
In 2007, we repeated
this survey as part of the 2008 International
Year of the Reef. We added in some new
questions to address climate change and the
coral trade, as well as increasing our sample
to included some niche constituencies of reef
users. The executive summary is available
here,
and the full report, in Powerpoint format, is
available here.
