J. Thomas
McMurray, Ph.D., TOF Chair (Chairman
and Founder, Marine Ventures Foundation) is an
active private investor
in early stage technology and environmental
companies. From 1990-1998,
Dr. McMurray was a general partner at Sequoia
Capital, which invested
in companies including Cisco Systems, Yahoo!
and Google. Currently, Tom
serves on the Board of Visitors for the Duke
University Marine
Laboratory in Beaufort, NC. He holds a B.S. and
M.S. in Mechanical
Engineering from Duke University and received
his Ph.D. from there in
1980.
Angel
Braestrup
(Executive Director, The Curtis & Edith
Munson Foundation) has been
involved in ocean conservation funding for more
than 15 years. Angel is
co-chair of the Marine (Funders) working Group
of the Consultative
Group on Biological Diversity. She serves on
the boards of the Norcross
Wildlife Foundation (Vice-Chair) and the Center
for Agricultural
Partnerships, and is a former board member of
the Association of Small
Foundations. Angel worked for a member of the
U.S. House of
Representatives from 1982- 1989, specializing
in transportation,
energy, agriculture, water resources, and other
environment issues.
Prior to becoming executive director, Angel
served as editor of the
Munson Foundation's bimonthly newsletter,
Conservation Digest.
Wolcott
Henry
(Chairman and President, The Curtis and Edith
Munson Foundation, and
President, The Henry Foundation) has been a
leader in marine
philanthropy for more than twenty years,
co-founding the original
Marine Funders Working Group and promoting the
creation of NGO programs
to address previously under-served issues such
as sustainable fisheries
management and coral reef protection. Wolcott
currently serves on the
boards of the World Wildlife Fund US and WWF
Philippines, and he is an
advisor to the Smithsonian Institution's Ocean
Science Initiative. Past
Chairman of the National Philanthropic Trust,
he has also been a
director of The Ocean Conservancy, Ocean
Futures, and Divers Alert
Network. Other current and past advisory board
service includes the
American Fisheries Society, National Fish and
Wildlife Foundation,
Conservation International, REEF, National
Parks Conservation
Association, Kellogg Graduate School of
Management at Northwestern
University, and the Kellogg Environmental
Research Center. As a
photographer, he has produced three books with
Dr. Sylvia Earle for
National Geographic; and he continues to
promote the use of quality
photography to further marine conservation
issues through Marine
Photobank. He is a graduate of Denison
University with an MBA from the
Kellogg Graduate School of
Management.
C. Bowdoin Train, TOF
Treasurer
(Managing Partner, Grosvenor Fund) joined the
Grosvenor Fund in 1995, a
venture capital firm managing over $100 Million
in investor assets.
Prior to joining Grosvenor, Mr. Train spent
most of his career
advising, financing, managing, and funding
private companies across
several industries, including health care,
telecommunications and
environmental services. Prior to becoming an
entrepreneur, Mr. Train
practiced law with Shaw, Pittman, LLP, in
Washington, DC. His practice
focused on corporate finance, including venture
capital transactions
and mergers and acquisitions. In 1991, Mr.
Train served as a senior
official at the Environmental Protection
Agency. Mr. Train is a member
of the board of The Nature Conservancy
(Maryland/D.C. Chapter), the
African Wildlife Foundation and previously
completed three years of
service on the Board of Hospice Care of the
District of Columbia. Mr.
Train sits on the Boards of BD Metrics, Inc.,
Qmobile, Inc., H3, Inc.,
iMove, Inc. and AppForge, Inc. He graduated
from Trinity College and
received his law degree in 1982 from Georgetown
University.
Lisa Hook
(President and Chief Operating Officer of
Neustar Inc.) has been with
Neustar (NYSE: NSR) since January 2008.
Prior to Neustar, she spent a
year as President and CEO of Sunrocket, a
consumer VOIP provider. Hook
spent most of her career with AOL and Time
Warner. Until 2004 she was
President of AOL Broadband, Premium and
Developer Services, where she
grew the AOL Broadband service from 300,000
subscribers to over five
million subscribers in less than two
years. She also created AOL's
Premium Services business in early 2003, which
grew to over two million
subscribers by year-end 2004. Earlier,
Hook launched AOL's wireless
and voice services businesses. Prior to joining
AOL in 2000, Hook was a
partner at Brera Capital Partners, a private
equity firm focused on
media and telecommunications. She also
served in a number of executive
roles with Time Warner, Inc. including
Executive Vice President and
Chief Operating Officer of Time Warner Telecom,
Special Advisor to the
Vice Chairman and Vice President of Time
Warner, managing
telecom-related transactions. Earlier in her
career, Hook served as the
Legal Advisor to the Chairman of the Federal
Communications Commission
and as Senior Attorney at Viacom, where she
oversaw the legal
department of Viacom's cable division.
Hook started her career with
the international law firm of Hogan &
Hartson in Washington, D.C.
Hook also serves on the board of Reed Elsevier,
a FTSE 50 company
(NYSE:ENL).
