Donor Advised Funds
A Donor
Advised Fund (DAF) at The Ocean Foundation
offers you an easy way both to develop your
philanthropic plan and to manage your
legacy. A DAF offers you a number of
important benefits:
• Create a charitable legacy for you or your family
• Establish and name your own fund quickly and easily ("The Smith Fund")
• Recommend the recipients for your fund's grants
• Remove year-end giving pressure while receiving an immediate tax deduction
• Contribute cash, securities, real estate, and/or other assets
• Donate anonymously if desired
• And most importantly - help save the planet's oceans!
The donor or the donor’s appointee has, or reasonably expects to have, the privilege to advise TOF board on the distribution or investment of amounts held in such fund by reason of the donor’s status as a donor (a donor with such privilege and any appointee of the donor are referred to collectively as “donor advisors”). By law, DAFs are specially described on our IRS Form 990 tax return to show:
• The total number of DAFs we manage
• The aggregate value of the assets in those DAFs
• The aggregate amount of contributions to DAFs during the fiscal year
• The aggregate amount of grants from DAFs during the fiscal year
